Posted by Gord Wilson on January 29, 2008 Well, as the headline says, never a dull moment in Senators land. Instead of talking about Daniel Alfredsson's team record-setting performance during last Thursday's game against Tampa Bay, instead of talking about Daniel Alfredsson's lead atop the scoring race, instead of talking about Alfredsson being named NHL first star of the week, we're instead talking about a backup goalie showing up late for practice again. In case you've been living in a cave, Emery showed up late for practice yesterday. Not an uncommon practice for him. General manager Bryan Murray has indicated that he'll fine Emery, but it's not known how much. In matters such as these, as much information as possible has to be gathered before making any rash decisions. Important not to have a knee jerk reaction, but rather let cooler heads prevail before deciding what course to take. All that being said, it was pretty clear this latest incident with this player has left both the coach and GM more than a little disappointed.
So the big question is, has this been a distraction to the team? One could easily answer yes, and so it should. But here's the bottom line... the Senators have been in first place in the East since the first day of the regular season and Ray Emery has been the same Ray Emery since the first of the season. Nothing has changed on either front.
All right, enough said on that matter. Senators are here in New York to face an Islander team that currently sits eighth in the conference. A tribute to the work Ted Nolan has done behind the bench. |
