Posted by Jason Spezza on January 10, 2008 I’m excited to see Steve Yzerman is being honoured here this weekend. Mario Lemieux was No. 1 and Steve Yzerman was 1A for me growing up. They were my two favourite players. My uncle played junior with Yzerman, so I got to meet him when I was a kid. I’ve got pictures of me when I was a kid with Yzerman. He’s always been a guy that was kind of close to my heart that way. For him to be in the building and to get inducted into the Ottawa Sports Hall of Fame, that’s another great honour for him. I definitely look up to him. Steve was an offensive guy, he was pretty good with the puck and he played pretty hard. Toward the end of his career, he won a lot of Stanley Cups. He took a lot of criticism early in his career, but it didn’t seem to bug him too much. He found a way to become a winner, he was a great captain and just a good guy to look up to. Everyone’s already talking about Saturday’s game against Detroit. When we play Toronto and Montreal, it’s usually a big game and Buffalo’s become a big rivalry for us. This is just something else to look forward to on the schedule, because we don’t play Detroit that much. Both teams are first in their conference, so it makes it extra special that way. Any time you play a good team, you want to show them you’re a good club, too. There’s a little bit extra that goes into it, but it’s not like if you lose, you’re out, and if you win, you’re in. You don’t want to put too much stock into it, but you definitely want to show them you’re a good hockey club. It is more than just another game, but it’s not like we’re looking ahead to it and not worrying about other games. When we get to it, I’m sure it’ll be an exciting game, being that it’s on a Saturday night. The final all-star rosters get announced on Friday. It’s definitely something you want to be a part of and you want to get recognized in that light. For sure, I’m looking forward to seeing what happens, but I won’t lose sleep over it. I’ve done all the work I can do up to now. If they pick you, it’s because of what you’ve done already. |

Hey Spezza
Hope everything goes well against Detroit it’s too bad that they weren't in Ottawa the last year Yzerman was on the team seeing as he is and O-town boy.
Good luck making the All Star team, I definitely voted for you.
Keep it up Guys... Go Sens Go

Good luck against Buffalo & Detroit. I know the whole team will be playing extra hard just to give the Red Wings a loss.

I voted for you, Alfie, Heater (and Phillips and Redden) for the All-Star game TONS of times, hopefully my hard work will pay off for you guys haha. But whether you are all included or not, I'm so very proud to live in Ottawa and have the Senators for my home team. It's easy to feel proud with such amazing players on the team! Congratulations on everything you have accomplished!

I was lucky enough to meet Steve Yzerman at CHEO with the Stanley Cup after he won it for the first time with Detroit. I must say that he was a class act and that I had never been happier in meeting an NHL player. I would love to be there on Saturday when the Sens and Wings go at it. But i'm very happy for Steve and the fact that he's being recognized for all his work in Hockey. Congrats.

What a FANTASTIC team effort against the Red Wings! You guys really put on a clinic out there! If you play like that, I honestly think you are unbeatable (even with the zebras' calls). Yzerman's comments on CBC about both teams were very balanced and fair, especially considering his job with the Red Wings. He's a class act and nice to see him get some home-town praise. I only hope Heater isn't hurt- give him our best!
And congrats on making the All-Star team. I was looking forward to watching at least one all-Sens line during the game. But I guess we'll see. It certainly is time you made it to the All-Stars, so congrats again!

Hey Jason, I just want to let you know that I picked you in my hockey pool and you're doing amazing. Keep up the great work. What an unbelievable line you guys have, with you Alffy and Heatley, it's pretty ridiculous that my favorite team my whole life gets a line like that. I'm really happy you guys are owning all those other chumps, and great going beating Detroit, you guys proved that you're the best team and this year is your year to win the cup. :)

Hey Spezz!!
Congrats on being named to the All-star team! All the Sens on the ballot got my vote several times.
I am originally from the Napean area and am so proud that one of the hockey greats is from my hometown. It was so great to see Yzerman drop the puck on Saturday and to see the fans cheer him on. He really is an insparation to us all.
Hope you are feeling better after last nights hit and are able to play tomorrow night. The team needs you!

Hey Spezza!
Congrats on the Allstar team. I have to say I had a hard time choosing sides for this game. I have been a Wings fan since day one. But I've always rooted for the Sens as well. It was a great game to watch, both teams put on an excellent show. Seeing Stevie Y at the game was awesome, especially with the way the crowd reacted.
Again congrats on the Allstar team.

Hey Jason;
I am so happy that you are getting better acquainted with shooting. You have such a great style, and you are a joy to watch out there. This post is late, but that pause against Carolina was just priceless. II am loving your hit record as well. Good luck and have fun in Atlanta with the All Stars. You need anyone to carry your equipment that weekend?
