Posted by Antoine Vermette on March 19, 2008 We played against two of our former teammates, Joe Corvo and Patrick Eaves, on Sunday for the first time since they were traded to the Carolina Hurricanes. It’s a little bit of a strange feeling, but I’m sure it was even worse for them. I’m sure it was very weird. I remember when I was in junior hockey, I played for the Quebec Remparts and that happened to me in the summertime. My first game I played the next regular season for Victoriaville was against my old Quebec teammates and in my old home rink. The fans still cheered for me, but it’s always strange, really strange. It’s not a fun feeling. You have a lot of friends on the opposing team and you have good memories of your time there. You want to make sure you have a good game against them. A bunch of guys went for a bite to eat with Patty the night before Sunday’s game. It was nice to see him, and he’s doing all right. Obviously, it’s different down there but he seems to be adapting and adjusting to it. We play the St. Louis Blues tomorrow night. It’s a team we don’t see very much, but we know they beat the Canadiens on Tuesday night. That’s a message for us. Things happen like that. Teams out of the playoffs come in and hurt some teams looking for positioning for the playoffs. That’s something we’re aware of, for sure. A couple of guys on the team, including myself, are going to see the Foo Fighters concert tonight. I know Luke is a fan as well. They’re a good group, they have some pretty good songs. I like their style of music. It’ll be my first time seeing them. During the season, you don’t get much of a chance to see a group like that. A lot of times, the timing is not there for it. You’re losing the ice, so that means sometimes we’re on the road and you can’t see them. So tonight is a good chance to be here to see this concert. It should be fun. ***************************** Dimanche dernier, nous avons joué contre deux de nos anciens coéquipiers, Joe Corvo et Patrick Eaves, pour la première fois depuis qu’ils ont été échangés aux Hurricanes de la Caroline. C’était un peu étrange pour nous et certainement davantage pour eux. Je me souviens lorsque j’étais dans le hockey junior, je jouais pour les Remparts de Québec et j’ai été échangé au cours de la saison estivale. La saison suivante, j’ai évolué à Victoriaville et le premier match du calendrier était contre mes anciens camarades à Québec. Les amateurs continuaient de m’encourager mais le sentiment que je ressentais était difficile à expliquer. J’étais un peu mal à l’aise. Je devais affronter une équipe qui comptait plusieurs de mes amis avec qui j’ai connu de très bons moments. Tu veux connaître un bon match contre eux. Plusieurs d’entre nous avons cassé la croûte avec Patty, la veille du match de dimanche. Nous étions heureux de le revoir et il se portait bien. Évidemment, le mode de vie est différent là-bas mais il semble bien s’y adapter. Nous affronterons les Blues de St. Louis demain soir, une équipe dont nous n’avons pas la chance d’affronter souvent. Ils ont battu le Canadien mardi soir. C’est un message pour nous. Les équipes excluent des séries éliminatoires peuvent venir jouer les troubles fête et faire mal aux formations qui luttent pour une bonne position au classement. Ce sont des choses qui arrivent et nous devrons évidemment faire preuve de vigilance. Quelques joueurs de l’équipe et moi allons assister au concert des Foo Fighters ce soir. Je sais que Luke est aussi un amateur de ce groupe. C’est une bonne formation qui compte plusieurs bonnes chansons. J’aime leur musique. C’est la première fois que je vais les voir. Au cours de la saison, nous n’avons pas beaucoup d’occasions pour assister à des spectacles du genre. Souvent, notre calendrier ne nous le permet pas ou encore nous sommes sur la route. Ce soir, nous avons la chance d’assister à ce concert. Du plaisir en perspective. |

Salut Antoine ! J'ai pas grand chose a te dire apart le fait que tu represente tres bien province avec les Sénateurs !!! Encore une fois on va esperer la coupe, mais cette année c'est la bonne j'en suis certain.
Oh my god, voir Daniel Soulever la coupe, jcrois que jvais pleurer, cest trop demotion :P
ALors bonne chance dans les séries et continue a donner tout ce que t'a, sa va te raporter sous peu.

yea it was weird seeing corvo and eaves in the canes' jersey, and playing against the sens. must be even weirder for u guys having to go against former teammates. i miss them tho :'(
and u know what i was just wondering if you were gonna go to foo's tonight, since i guess you're pretty much a rock fan eh? (hi-five yo!) i'm bummed bout not being able to go....so hope u have fun! foo fighters' shows have always been awesome :D
oh and good luck for tomorrow's game, too :)
p/s: if you go backstage say hi to dave grohl! he's awesome :)

Salut Antoine bravo tu fais un travail extra et je trouve que tu n'as pas tout le credit que tu merite.J'espere que Martin vas rester en santer pour vous aider a gagner la coupe.Je n.aime pas la bagare mais je m'ennui du style rude de Neil et MCgrattan.bravo a tout L'equipe vous faite un excelent travail.Martin Brisson.

Hi Antoine,
Have fun at the concert tonight....but get to bed at a decent time, the Blues are better than their stats. Glad you got to see Patty, I was disappointed to see him go, you just know his day is coming to shine. Corvo we will miss on the powerplay for sure. I see lots of potential in Stillman and I think he'll be a great linemate with Mike and Alfie. Yourself and Kelly are the best penalty killing tandem in the NHL in my opinion...truly valuable to the team. Someone I don't see mentioned in the posts is the addition of Luke Richardson...his defensive skills are dependable and I find him becoming stronger and stronger as each game progresses. I also like the addition of Commodore because after Anaheim last year, we need some more heavyweights on the back end. I believe the Sens are going to get their mojo back, I really think it goes back to basics....keep it simple, hockey is habit with a little extra talent thrown in...keep the lines the same and everyone will be able to anticipate eachothers next move....no communication breakdowns.
Don't forget to have fun, you guys click when you losen up on the stick , have fun.

I was wondering how you deal with all the pressure and stress from not only the regular season games but also with the playoffs coming soon?

Félicitations. Tu as une belle saison à date. Tu est mon joueur préféré parmis les Sénateurs. L'équipe au complet est ma préférée comme de raison. Continue le beau travail et espérons que la COUPE sera ici à Ottawa cette année.

Depuis le retour de M. Murray derrière le banc des Sénateurs on remarque une nette amélioration dans l'organisation du jeu collectif et de l’effort fournit des joueurs. Les matchs de contre Phoenix, Montréal (3-0) et même la première partie du match contre les Leafs sont des exemples. Par contre, je ne pense pas que nous avons atteint le niveau du calibre de jeu des Sénateurs d’Ottawa. Le gérant d’estrade en moi dit que, l’important est de bien jouer à l’aube des séries éliminatoires afin de se bâtir une confiance et jouer avec assurance. Si les Sens finissent 4e dans la conférence ce n’est pas la fin du monde. À quel rang avons-nous terminé la saison dernière dans la conférence ?
Pour ce qui est des Foo Fighters. C’est un band qui tire son épingle du jeu et qui offre de bons show. Je pense que leur meilleur album est The colour and shape avec entre autre la chanson Everlong. Cool en plus que Luke Richardson aime ce band; il nous a donné du bon hockey cette année.
J’espère pouvoir continuer à écrire en français plus souvent, peut-être une collaboration Antoine Vermette et Martin Lapointe pour le prochain blogue pourrait être intéressante. Il parait que Martin Lapointe est un fin connaisseur de vins ;) C'est cool qu'on puisse s'exprimer en français sur les dossiers "chauds" de notre équipe. Belle initiative pour le développement du Hockey dans la région!

it is wierd playing against former playmates. a girl on my ringette team last year changed associations because she moved so we had to play against her during the season. It was really strange I felt bad if I hurt her and stuff :S. Playing against old teamates is real hard:)
but good job against Buffalo hopefully you can win again on thursday:)

Patty is the bomb and will be greatly missed here in Ottawa!!!!! He is one of my favourite players and I can only wish him nothing but the best! He will in time surprise all of us, i'm sure of that!
As for you Antoine, keep flicking the puck at the net...you have great hand eye coordination and it always surprises me how creative you are when it comes to putting the puck in the back of the net.
Good Luck in the upcoming playoffs...Pittsburgh is in for a handful and I don't think they quite get it!!! LOL
