Posted by Mike Fisher on August 7, 2008 My first Mike Fisher Hockey Camp is nearing its end and it’s been fun working with the kids and helping out some local charities. Pretty soon, it’ll be time for us to hit the ice again for a new season. I’ve been away a lot this summer, so I don’t feel all the way up to speed on what’s happened during the off-season. But I’ve been following it a little. With a new coach, Craig Hartsburg, and seeing some guys go, we’ll be a different team this season, that’s for sure. But I think our team’s still going to be good. We’re still fairly young and guys are still improving and getting better. We signed some guys that are going to be around for awhile now. I think it’s going to be a great year. Even learning from last year and some of the adversity we faced is going to help us. So will just having the time off to heal your body and to prepare mentally and to get ready. I think we’ll be more excited coming to training camp because it’s been awhile since we last played. The knee I injured at the end of last season feels really good. It took a little while after the season to rehab it, but my workouts have been good. Already, I’ve been on the ice a little bit and it’s been going well. There shouldn’t be a repeat of last year, when I missed a lot of training camp. That was my groin that caused that problem and it feels much better now I’ve been able to train a lot harder this summer and skate more and that’ll be good. I had a conversation with Craig on the phone a while back. I’m excited about what I think he’ll bring to our team. I think he’ll be really good for us. We can’t wait to get started. |

Nice job with the hockey camp, Mike. That really means a lot to the community, in terms of both the on- and off-ice benefits. Good luck with the season!

What success you have had with the 2008 Hockey Camp. I am sure all involved see it as an annual event.
In reading your blog it looks as if you will be back in the pre season games, which is great news for your fans. Hoping to see you and the Sens play at the Oct 11 game against the Wings ( would be great to get a autograph as well) :-)
Good Luck with your 08 - 09 season and again fans wait patiently for the season to begin. It is great to be a Canadian and to watch the best sport out there !!!

I took the opportunity to read up a little about the camp and I have to say it is very impressive. What a remarkable contribution; so many lives have been and will continue to be touched in a such positive way. You are a pillar of the community Mike. I am really looking forward to the 08-09 season. There have been quite a few changes since last season but it is a new beginning and a new opportunity. Thank you for all that you do on and off the ice! Take care and I look forward to seeing all of you on the ice in October.

It sounds like you had a lot of fun running the camp. Do you and your brother plan to do it again next year?

Mike,
it's great to get a blog from you. You are by far my favourite player on the team. I absolutely revel in your style of play, always hard working always willing to be physical, with the awesome offensive plays!
I hope you have a great training camp and an even better season. It'd be exciting to see you score 30 goals this season and have the same amount of assists!
Here's to the Senators! I'm excited about a new season for our team.
GO SENS GO!!!

Hi Mike, I think its great what you, your family and some of the Sens are doing at the camp. Your still my number one favourite Senator (don't tell Dany but he's right up there with you too!). Thanks for doing this.

Hi Mike,
Another hockey season is about to begin. I'm so excited to see how great our SENS will be this year. It looks like we've acquired some great new and existing talent. It's sad to see some players move on but at the same time, new players bring a whole new look to a team. I'm also looking forward to see how Craig can get our SENS fire going for the 2008-2009 season.
I wish you all the best for your 2008-2009 season. Play for the love of hockey and have fun doing it, cause we all love watching it!!!
SENS 4EVER!!!!

Hi Mike,
My son attended your Hockey Camp last week (the final week). It was the best experience and most memorable one he has had since he began playing hockey. I could not believe how well this camp was run and as parents, how relaxed we felt being able to go and watch either the skills being taught or the games that were played. We will defintly be back next year, well worth the money spent and also for a good cause. The camp councillor he had throughout the day as well as all the camp staff were great at making the kids feel welcome and relaxed. Thanks Mike

Hi Mike,
I am Canadian-Albanian, and have to tell you that hockey was not one of our sports there. And even when I moved here, I did not have much interest until I started watching the finals, and realizing how much effort and training it takes to be able to play that well and be able to make it to the finals. I do admire all of you, especially you and Alfie.
I do with you all the best and great season this year, you and your team.
Cheers,
Dani

I like to hear that you guys are trying to build on last year's adversity (the Stanley Cup Finals curse that knocks out every team the next year- other than Detroit). Alfie's leadership in the last couple of games set a good tone for the start of this upcoming year. Without the pressure of being the league favourites, you can focus on quietly winning your way to the Cup!
Detroit, to be honest, is an awesome team that just got better with Hossa, but if there's one team that can take them, it's you guys. You guys totally owned them when you played them last winter, and I totally think you could do it again. Your own hard-hitting, energetic style is a perfect example of how the team's speed, skill, and strength are too much for any other team to handle. The fact that you're also a generous guy who gives back the community shows that there's more to the Sens then just being great players. Which makes it really easy to be a huge fan of this team. Go Sens!

I'm glad to hear your first hockey camp went well. I'm sure that there will be a lot more in the future. I'd just like to say that the Ottawa Senators have been my #1 Team since the beginning. I'm VERY proud to say that I AM A OTTAWA SENATOR FAN. GO SENS GO. Bring home the cup.
